Top 7 = Christmas prep, wrestling, and a quick trip to work in HSV

blog top 7 Dec 19, 2022

This week’s Top 7 includes the Christmas prep, wrestling, and a quick trip to work in HSV…

(By the way, the new planner arrived this week. I’ll post a paperback version soon that you can access super-cheap, and get super-quick. Keep watching.)

Fitness = Judah, 1:1 wrestling

This week, Oak Mountain wrestled a regional meet at Thompson High School. The boys faced Thompson and Tuscaloosa County.

Levi was sick, so I was able to invest 1:1 time with Judah. And, though I was disappointed that Levi didn’t get to wrestle, I did enjoy two matches with Judah, the downtime between those matches, and the ride home.

Finance = QuickBooks + Levi

This week, Beth blocked some time and did our year-end stuff— for all of 2022. That means that as soon as we receive the tax documents in the mail, we’re ready to submit our final returns to Uncle Sam. She’s done an amazing job of working ahead, as well as keeping everything in legit top-notch order.

Also, Saturday, I took Levi to my parents— all the way to HSV. He had a wrestling tournament scheduled, but was unable to o participate due to being out of school sick a few days this week…

During Thanksgiving weekend, my parents told me, “We had a painter who was supposed to come paint the stairs going up to the garage attic. He sanded the handrail, but then never returned to do the work. We’ll pay one of the boys…”

I suggested Levi. He’s the hardest worker— hands down.

So, I told him to call them, then set up a time to do the work over Christmas break. Without a wrestling tournament to compete in, Saturday was a prime day.

We rode up early, he worked a few hours while I visited with my parents, and then the guys went out for lunch…

Levi and my Dad are either contemplating dessert— or checking the score for one of the bowl games while we’re dining at Ted’s BBQ.

Family  = Noah, Steak Night

Thursday was Noah’s monthly— or so— steak night. After high school graduation, he moved in with Em, his oldest sister. I think this was a great transition for him. And, if he was going to move out and move in with anyone I couldn’t think of a better option than his oldest sister.

Ivey was working at Saks, so we walked across to visit…

Field = Write, write, write

For the past few weeks I pre-scheduled everything I could possible pre-schedule (in terms of online content for clients) in order to focus on finishing the Amplify material. At this point, I have two chapters remaining— one of actual content and an intro. I’ll finish the draft this week, and then begin taking next steps.

For more about the project go to https://www.amplifyonline.info

Faith = Humility & protection

This week, once again, I saw that when people generally set a trap for you, the Lord often protects you by letting them fall into their own snare…

Moreover, it’s not that He wants anyone to fall into a trap. He doesn’t. He wants us to all walk in freedom.

However, the snares we set for others— or that others set for us— often reveal more about our (or their, if they’re the trap-setter)— heart condition than anything else.

Friends = brainstorming...

This week I met Randy at the Tavern at the Summit. We discussed the Amplify project, as well as mapped a plan to get an audience to the first live training event— tentatively scheduled for sometime in February.

Keep watching— especially if you have a message to share. We’ll do something, in the very near future, as I prep to release the book, in the Birmingham-area.

Fun = Beth, Power-shopping

Full disclosure: Beth handled 100% of Christmas this year. The tree. All the shopping. Everything.

Well, everything except…

… hanging the new TV and assembling the new home gym. I did that, all by myself…

This week, we headed out a few days to grab a few things…

  •  A new TV for the kids (in the Tiny House)
  •  A new couch (see below) for Mini’s living room
  •  And, yes, the gym…

We decided that, this year, for Christmas… instead of buying a bunch of stuff the kids won’t use, we’ll purchase some things that make their areas— the places they have friends and just enjoy themselves— more usable.

That’s the highlight reel for the week.

If you’re just now dropping in, each week I look back at the week behind + preview the week ahead— so I don’t miss anything— and look and highlight at least one thing for which I’m grateful in each of the 7 key areas of life…
