Top 7 = Concert + free Warrior Family audiobook
Jun 26, 2023This week’s Top 7 includes a concert we attended last Sunday evening, as well as a few projects that are mid-stream for Crosswinds Foundation.
Each week I look back at the week behind + preview the week ahead— so I don’t miss anything— and look and highlight at least one thing for which I’m grateful in each of the 7 key areas of life…

Fitness = intermittent fasting
This week I began experimenting with intermittent fasting— simply as a way to make a predetermined choice to NOT snack during the morning AS WELL AS not to snack later in the evening.
It’s too early to tell…
… but, I’ll fill you in how it’s going after a few more weeks of trying it.

Family = yes, I’ll pay for my own Father’s Day dinner
I spoke to Ivey on the phone this Thursday and was greeted with, “Hey, we should go out to eat for Father’s Day tomorrow.”
All fathers and daughters that I know actually KNOW this means, “Hey, you can take me out to eat for Father’s Day— and you can pay for it!”
π€ͺ
Of course, it doesn’t matter…
We’re always honored to take our girls out— and, even if they TRIED to pay, we wouldn’t let them.

We met at Carrigan’s— one of my fav places in the Lakeview district, just down the street from where we used to leave, about half a mile into one of my former running loops downtown.
We grabbed this pic on the way out…
Here’s the zoom-in…
The rabbit has horns AND wings, making it a— who knows what you might call it.
In all seriousness, we had a GREAT time. We talked about some career changes, schooling shifts, and— as luck might have it— I was able to make a few calls and connections for her…

Field = Hope for the Warrior family audiobook, claims yours here
Monday I laid the tracks for the Hope for the Warrior Family audiobook— the intro AND all 10 chapters.
Tuesday, I laid the tracks for Disentangled, a 6-lesson Bible study to empower veterans to overcome the hurts associated with PTSD and Moral Injury.
About the first book…
Bob Waldrep, the founder + Executive Director of Crosswinds, and I wrote the book back in 2020– just as the pandemic began. I remember sending files back and forth across email, as we talked through the contents via telephone.
At the time, I knew it was a good tool, but I had NO IDEA how helpful it could be for families seeking to overcome the hurts, pains, and “normal sorting life out” types of concerns associated with military service.
We decided to create the audiobook as we prep to release our documentary, Trauma Comes Home, later in July.
π
In this book, you’ll learn—
β How the trauma that affects ONE person in the family actually touches them all
β How to understand PTSD and Moral Injury, AS WELL AS practical steps you can take to move forward
β Things you should say and should NOT say to a family member dealing with trauma
β How to “put your own oxygen mask on first” without being selfish or even self-focused
β Three steps to building an effective support system— a support TEAM— for the family, as well as what that team needs to be able to help you do

The good news…
The audiobook is absolutely free.
There’s no upsell, no credit card info required…
Nothing.

Faith = wrapped the Purpose study at Believer’s Temple
Wednesday evening I wrapped a two-week study through Purpose (the intro to LifeLift) at Believer’s Temple in West Birmingham. Here’s a few of the attendees.
And here’s a group shot a few of us took after we concluded for the night. That’s the pastor, Herman Henderson, on the top right, standing with his wife (Eula, in the red hat).
The Purpose material is available as a book, an audiobook, and an online course…
… and, the book is FREE on our website. Pay the shipping and handling and we’ll— same day— drop it from our shipping department in the mail to you. Plus, you’ll receive instant access to the eBook.

Friends = Scott’s baptism
Father’s Day Sunday, we attended Crossbridge Community Church in Helena, where a friend of ours— Scott Landreth— was getting baptized.
I met Scott back in 2019, when he began attending Centers of Hope, a project by Crosswinds Foundation for Faith & Culture. One of the first things I noticed about Scott was his service dog, Rambo. Since then, Rambo has retired— and is more of a pet— and now he works with Thor.
Scott’s story is unique…
… and tells of the importance of service dogs, and how they help warriors find freedom and mobility.
I interviewed him a few years ago on the Warrior Hope podcast. Listen to the episode here:

Fun = Sunday night concert
Sunday evening, Beth and I rode over to Oak Mountain Amphitheatre to catch the James Taylor concert. We’re both fans of his music— and his easy-going, humble demeanor.
(For a moment, I thought about driving to Huntsville a few days later but was glad I didn’t— that concert was cancelled due to laryngitis. Taylor is now 75!).
Our seats cost us…
… catch this…
… about $5.
