Top 7 = Em turns 22, Open House (more bacon club)
Feb 06, 2023Em turns 22, I ran more electrical (but am not ready to start building another house), and I complete the Amplify presentation slides.
That— and a few more items from the week— round out this week’s Top 7.

Fitness = More Insanity
This week I finished the first phase of Insanity— all 35-40 minute workouts. That means one thing… a week of stretching and recovery (written into the program), followed by a month of 50-55 minute workouts.
Here we go…

Finance = Ran the electric downstairs
We’ve been redoing the downstairs bathroom. A few months ago, the flood (from the burst fridge pipe) caused us to tear out the bathroom shower— due to water damage BEHIND it and the possibility of mold developing. That meant a complete redo.
This week, we saved a bit of $$$$ when I went down, worked a few hours, and installed new lights and moved some switches.
I’m not ready to do a full-on build again— such as the tiny house— but it was a great diversion from the recent writing and other projects.

Family = Salter, open house at school
This week, I took Salter to the Open House at Oak Mountain Intermediate (= one bump above elementary, but not quite Middle School). We played “9 Square in the Air” (the flavor of the moment in gym), pushed through the halls to check a few things off the “tour sheet” each kid received, and ate at a Food Truck.
I also learned that Salter has a “chum club” (whatever that is), which does some things for his teacher.
Notice the sub-heading on that poster. “Everything is better with bacon.”
And, yes, there’s a dancing bacon-piece beside it, just over Salter’s head.

Field = Amplify, presentation slides done
In preparation for the upcoming course shoot (weekend of February 24-25), I pulled together the slides.
We’re at 1,100– for two full days of convo.

Faith = “Wait & see”
One of the oddest tensions I’ve seen is when a company hires you to help them, most often (clearly, admittedly) after having tried to do things internally and on their own for a few years without completing a project and sensing they need outside help. Then, after receiving the “we trust you” and “you’re the expert” speeches, watching them push back against 90%— or more— of the proven-to-work advice you give.
The more I see some of this, the more I’m taken to a place of self-reflection. That is, I’m driven to actually look at myself and think, “Oh, in what ways to I also do this…? And, how can I change that tendency…?”

Friends = Judah & the wrestling team, Tuesday
Tuesday, we rolled to the nearby Mellow Mushroom with the wrestling team— and a bunch of the parents and coaches. Mellow Mushroom does fundraising nights, so they gave a big kickback to the program.

Fun = Em at Black Market, birthday
Em turned 22 this Tuesday, so we met— middle-of-the-afternoon— at Black Market. We ordered some appetizers (late lunch) and just talked.
It was good to catch up in an un-rushed, 1:1, moment away from all the others in the JCrew2.

That’s the highlight reel for the week.
If you’re just now dropping in, each week I look back at the week behind + preview the week ahead— so I don’t miss anything— and look and highlight at least one thing for which I’m grateful in each of the 7 key areas of life…
